About The Position

Ares is currently seeking a highly, motivated, detail-oriented team player to join as an Associate within our Corporate Strategy Group. The Corporate Strategy Group consists of investment professionals working directly with the firm’s Executive Chairman, CEO, Co-Presidents, and business group heads to source, evaluate and execute upon the firm’s highest priority growth initiatives. Projects led by the Corporate Strategy Group have included management company acquisitions, portfolio purchases, minority investments / strategic partnerships, global expansion, public offerings, certain multi-strategy fundraising initiatives and new distribution channel expansion. The group strategically deploys Ares’ balance sheet capital, as well as third-party capital, in accretive opportunities that enhance our current capabilities and/or expand our product offering. This position presents a candidate with a unique opportunity to join a small, entrepreneurial group focused on Ares’ critical growth areas. The Corporate Strategy Group will give a candidate broad exposure to the firm across our five investment groups (Credit, Private Equity, Real Assets, Secondaries and Other Businesses), business development group and our operations groups (legal, compliance, finance & accounting, operations, HR, etc.). Given the critical nature of our projects, candidates will interact directly with the senior most professionals at the firm, including members of Ares’ Operating Committee and Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • Impeccable integrity and trustworthiness. The Corporate Strategy Group is often required to work with sensitive information and a candidate must be willing and able to handle this information appropriately
  • Self-motivated with the ability to set priorities, multitask, and monitor own workload to meet aggressive deadlines
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work well with limited supervision
  • Private equity caliber drive and ability to work effectively in a collegial, fast moving, demanding, and dynamic environment
  • Creative problem solver
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3 to 4 years of relevant investment banking, management consulting or principal investing

Responsibilities

  • Performing detailed financial and market analysis that forms the basis for decisions on investments of the firm
  • Preparing complex excel financial models
  • Screening new investment opportunities
  • Preparing investment committee memos and board presentations
  • Analyzing investment performance including maintaining and updating financial models as well as keeping track of relevant current market activities
  • Assisting in investment closings and integrations
  • Meeting with management teams and sponsors when assessing new investment opportunities and monitoring the existing investments
  • Providing direct support as deemed necessary by senior management
