About The Position

The Anoka County Finance department’s mission is Enriching our community by providing quality services and assuring financial integrity. We are seeking an Associate Accountant to join our Cash Receipting team. This role is responsible for accurately applying incoming payments—including cash, checks, ACH, and credit card transactions—for multiple county departments. The Associate Accountant ensures timely and accurate posting, compliance with internal controls, and proper documentation of all transactions. This position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to established procedures, and collaboration with internal departments to resolve discrepancies and maintain financial integrity. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place at the Anoka County Government Center the week of February 23, 2026 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Second interviews, if needed, would take place the following week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  • One year (2,080 annual hours) of accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems and county organization and operation and ability to apply that knowledge.
  • Expertise at Excel and Adobe.
  • Quick entry skills (alpha and numeric).
  • Ability to analyze, develop and interpret rules, regulations, policies and practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Apply incoming payments (cash, checks, ACH, and credit cards) to the correct accounts and verify batch totals for accuracy before posting.
  • Review the accuracy of entries to subsidiary ledger and bank.
  • Research and resolve misapplied or unapplied payments.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all payment transactions in accordance with retention and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with billing and bank reconciliation to resolve payment posting discrepancies and ensure timely application.
  • Prepare and provide reports on cash application activities for internal inquiries and audit purposes.
  • Communicate with internal departments or external payers by phone or email to obtain missing or to clarify payment information.
