About The Position

The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement at Emory University utilizes resources, technology, and business for the purpose of constituent engagement, donor research and solicitation, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. Their mission is to inspire and steward meaningful, lasting relationships that elevate engagement and giving to fulfill Emory’s mission to serve humanity. The Operations department plays a crucial role in supporting the administrative and operational needs of the Advancement and Alumni Engagement division, encompassing financial management, data analysis, prospect development, stewardship, gift administration, and fundraising support. This senior member of Operations leads the Gift Operations and the Fund Management teams as a pivotal role in maturing, developing and implementing a strategic plan to cultivate and sustain relationships with donors through accurate gift operations and the efficient utilization of the funds entrusted to advance the mission of Emory. The leader must align these strategies with the organization's mission and long-term goals to ensure sustainable growth.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and ten years of experience in accounting, finance, or business operations with team leadership and staff management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and leads the Gift Operations and Fund Management teams for Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
  • Oversight of all gift compliance programming to ensure proper fund utilization, timely expenditure and proactive fund management collaboratively with Deans, unit Chief Business Officers and Senior leaders across the Emory enterprise.
  • Leads and executes in partnership the Philanthropic Fund Management workgroup for a comprehensive view of policy and procedures creating efficiencies, automated reconciliation and reporting and ensuring compliance for fund utilization.
  • Ensures abidance to organizational policies, IRS rules and regulations as well as recognizing and mitigating potential legal and reputational risks associated with gift agreements.
  • Serves as a lead contributor to data management standards, policies and practices.
  • Manages the Gift Operations team and oversight of financial reporting activities including monthly fundraising reports and ad hoc requests.
  • Partners with controller's office and tax management office including exception control, gathering & analyzing fundraising information for financial statements, and balancing & reconciliation of gift revenue.
  • Develops and communicates university & division policies to ensure compliance.
  • Directs projects that include modeling, financial & operational analytics, and business process improvement.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and optimal resource management within the division.
  • Monitors operating procedures to support department activities and increase productivity and quality assurance of gift operations processing.
  • Partners with AAE and institutional leadership on specific initiatives and projects.
  • Manages a team of professionals.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for improvement and innovation in gift compliance by staying informed about industry trends, exploring new technologies and approaches, and implementing best practices.
  • Encourage a culture of learning and growth within the team, fostering an environment where new ideas are welcomed and tested leading to strong program maturation and efficiency.
