About The Position

The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life & Engagement delivers strategic and operational leadership overseeing student engagement, support services, and specialized programs throughout Dallas College. The position manages Directors and staff, provides dotted line supervision to Deans, and ensures effective leadership and integration of Military Connected Services with campus-based resources for military-affiliated students. The Assistant Vice Chancellor works alongside the Associate Vice Chancellor to shape strategic priorities, initiatives, operations, and resource allocation within the division, all aimed at fostering a comprehensive, student-centered experience aligned with the mission and values of Dallas College. Additionally, the Assistant Vice Chancellor serves as a thought partner, promoting collaboration across Dallas College and throughout the surrounding communities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student development, community college leadership or related field plus minimum of five (5) years of relevant progressively responsible higher education administrative experience related to the position.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising senior leaders and large teams in a complex, multi-campus environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing high functioning teams.
  • Experience developing and managing programs for military-affiliated students and special populations.
  • Strong background in strategic planning, resource management, budget oversight, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed.
  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required.
  • Official transcripts required.
  • Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.
  • Experience leading or managing major change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge regarding accreditation and THECB requirements and other state initiatives.
  • Proven capacity to work inclusively with executive associates, and collaboratively with management, information technology, human resources, and finance professionals etc.
  • Demonstrate and be able to apply excellent knowledge of contemporary research which underpins high impact services, programming, support, case management, and student success strategies.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive expertise and practical experience with support programs, student services, student affairs, student engagement, student development, case management, and program creation.
  • Demonstrate strong supervision, management, and development experience that promotes high expectations for employee accountability and quality customer service.
  • Demonstrate experience leading, tracking and monitoring employee performance in a hybrid/flex/remote work environment.
  • Be proficient in the use of quantitative and qualitative data to improve the student experience and increase student success outcomes (persistence, completion, transfer, and employment).
  • Be familiar with relevant national policies, practices and legislation that relates to belonging and support.
  • Respond appropriately to issues in a dynamic rapidly changing educational/economic environment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of emerging technologies and the effective application of service technologies to enhance case management, tracking, and engagement with internal and external resources and supports.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of program evaluation and student outcome assessment.
  • Possess an understanding of budget development, preparation, and management.
  • Excellent time management, organization, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and writing skills and an ability to effectively communicate complex ideas with clarity and precision.
  • An appreciation of participatory governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside a college or university.
  • Knowledge of current research and policy recommendations as well as state and national initiatives designed to enhance success coaching and case management initiatives.
  • Experience in strategic planning, assessment of program(s) effectiveness, and development of guidelines to improve outcomes for students.
  • Experience deploying data-informed and results oriented programs and supports.
  • Excellent leadership and customer service skills.
  • Completes required Dallas College professional development hours per academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Large-Scale Operational Leadership: Supervise Directors directly and Deans indirectly, applying advanced personnel management and operational oversight to a large, distributed team.
  • Strategic Program Development: Design, implement, and assess assigned areas, including case management, retention initiatives, and diverse programs for traditional, dual credit, continuing education, and special populations.
  • Budget Management: Manage multimillion dollar budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Data-Informed Decision Making: Use quantitative and qualitative data to drive student success outcomes, inform continuous improvement, and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Academic Integration: Foster collaborative relationships among academic affairs, student affairs, and continuing education to provide comprehensive support services and promote meaningful student engagement.
  • Change Leadership: Lead major change initiatives, adapting programs and services to meet evolving educational, regulatory, and student needs.
  • Driving Retention and Graduation: Develop and execute strategies that directly impact student persistence, completion, and overall success.
  • Balancing Multiple Programs: Ensure the effective design, implementation, and execution of diverse programs and services for all student populations.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Navigate accreditation, state, and federal requirements, maintaining program integrity and compliance across all areas.
  • Facilitating Collaboration: Build consensus and foster effective collaboration across academic, student affairs, and external partners.
  • Continuous Assessment: Implement ongoing assessment and improvement processes for all student success initiatives, using data to inform strategy and operations.
  • Oversight of Military Connected Services: Ensure focused leadership and integration of Military Connected Services with campus-based support, championing initiatives for military-affiliated students.
  • Resource Alignment: Assist the Associate Vice Chancellor in stewarding strategic priorities, projects, and resource alignment across the division.
  • Complete required Dallas College Professional Development Hours per Academic Year. All employees are required to complete a minimum of 19 hours. People leaders are required an additional 16 hours of leadership development.

  • Exercises full discretion and decision-making authority in the recruitment, selection, hiring, mentoring, coaching, development & termination of staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, budgetary constraints, and workforce planning strategies.
  • Drive high performance by administering the performance management process timely, setting clear expectations, conducting performance evaluations, and implementing initiatives that enhance employee engagement, motivation, and retention.
  • Provides management and accountability for the administration, development, assessment and improvement of services and experiences which meet and support the College’s mission and strategic objectives.
