About The Position

The Department of Architecture at Ball State University seeks enthusiastic teachers and mentors to focus on design studio instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The College of Architecture and Planning offers a five-year professional B.Arch. Program, a four-year pre-professional BA/BS program, a four-year Bachelor of Environmental Design program, and a professional M.Arch. Program. Faculty teach in a variety of settings, including three sites in Muncie, Indiana and one in downtown Indianapolis. The common First-Year program builds a solid foundation for three disciplines (architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning). At the end of the first year, students then apply to the program(s) of their specific interest: architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Both professional architecture programs require an independent studio project completed in the final year, which is guided by studio faculty and advisors. Faculty advising is an integral part of the education in the Department of Architecture. The non-tenure line opportunities begin on August 21, 2026, continue through April 30, 2027, and are renewable at the discretion of the Chair. Teaching responsibilities are on-campus, in Muncie, IN. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. The ideal candidate can teach foundational and upper-level design studios, fosters innovative design thinking and methodologies, has multiple years of experience teaching at the collegiate level, and is committed to expanding and advancing the culture of architecture and design through creative teaching pedagogy. At the heart of architecture is curiosity. An enduring interest in what’s behind the structures and spaces of cities, neighborhoods, and villages. An unshakeable awareness of not only the design or technology of our building and communities, but also how they mirror philosophy and politics. And, ultimately, an abiding intrigue into how each place and space faces the challenge of persistence and relevance as the ideas, modes, and people change around them.
