About The Position

The Department of Architecture at Ball State University is seeking enthusiastic teachers and mentors to primarily focus on design studio instruction at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The College of Architecture and Planning offers various programs, including a five-year professional B.Arch., a four-year pre-professional BA/BS, a four-year Bachelor of Environmental Design, and a professional M.Arch. Faculty members teach across multiple sites in Muncie, Indiana, and downtown Indianapolis. The curriculum includes a common First-Year program that establishes a foundation for architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning, after which students apply to their specific program of interest. Both professional architecture programs culminate in an independent studio project in the final year, guided by studio faculty and advisors. Faculty advising is a crucial component of the education. These non-tenure line positions commence on August 21, 2026, and conclude on April 30, 2027, with renewal at the discretion of the Chair. Teaching duties are exclusively on-campus in Muncie, IN. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching foundational and upper-level design studios, promoting innovative design thinking and methodologies, possess multiple years of collegiate teaching experience, and be dedicated to advancing architectural and design culture through creative teaching pedagogy. The department values curiosity about the structures and spaces of cities, neighborhoods, and villages, an awareness of design, technology, philosophy, and politics in built environments, and an interest in how places maintain relevance amidst change.
