About The Position

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. The Department of World Languages and Cultures seeks to fill a non-tenure-track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor of French. This position will support the University's commitment to innovation in teaching as well as the Department of World Languages and Cultures' vision of developing students' intercultural communicative competence. This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year. This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. The position will be on Northeastern’s Boston campus.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in French applied linguistics, pedagogy, literature, cultural studies, or a related field in hand by the employment start date.
  • Ability to teach French language and culture courses at all levels of the curriculum.
  • Experience teaching French in in-person and online (asynchronous) formats.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French.

Responsibilities

  • Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses each semester), including French language and culture courses, and ongoing curricular and pedagogical innovation.
  • Professional development and service are also expected.
