About The Position

The Department of Physical Therapy at Charleston Southern University (CSU) invites candidates to apply for a 12-month, tenure track appointment as a core faculty member in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Teaching will be the primary responsibility of the successful candidate with remaining effort allocated across scholarship, service, and professional development. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Relocation assistance is available for the selected candidate. CSU is a member of the Tuition Waiver Exchange Program for dependents of full-time faculty. CSU meets eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. The Department of Physical Therapy offers a two-and-a-half-year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and is a member of the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT). The mission of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Charleston Southern University is to prepare highly skilled practitioners in a Christian environment who demonstrate compassionate, evidence-based clinical care while serving their community and profession with humility. The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is housed within the College of Health Sciences along with the Physician Assistant, Athletic Training, Clinical Counseling, Kinesiology, and Public Health programs. The Health Sciences building has 15,000 square feet of dedicated physical therapy space. It also includes a state-of-the-art human anatomy dissection lab and research labs that will satisfy a variety of scholarly agendas. The DPT curriculum consists of eight semesters of full-time, in person, student-centered learning utilizing a team-based instruction model. Requirements

  • Physical therapist who holds a current license to practice as a PT in any United States jurisdiction and is eligible for licensure in South Carolina.
  • Doctoral degree (ie. DPT with ABPTS certification) or an earned academic doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution (PhD, EdD, DSc, DHSc or equivalent).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time or full-time equivalent clinical experience as a physical therapist.
  • Has contemporary expertise in specific content to assigned teaching area.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with ability to work within a collegial, team environment.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time or full-time equivalent higher education teaching experience. Higher education teaching experience includes serving as a teaching assistant, a primary instructor, or a lab instructor.
  • Terminal academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, DHSc or equivalent) in relevant field.
  • Record of scholarship and clearly defined research agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching Physical Therapy graduate courses in a face-to-face context.
  • Primary duties include preparing for and conducting classes, grading, evaluating, and assessing students' assignments and tests, maintaining accurate records and demonstrating excellent classroom management.
