About The Position

The School of Computing (SoC) at Utah State University (USU) is excited to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We seek candidates whose research advances core areas of computer science while engaging with interdisciplinary domains where computing plays a pivotal role. This position is ideal for scholars who integrate computing with fields such as data science, AI for science, computational biology, robotics, cybersecurity, human-computer interaction, or other emerging areas. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in research, teaching, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. Review of applications may begin as early as December 1, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. We welcome applicants whose work integrates computer science with other domains to advance emerging research frontiers. Examples include (but are not limited to): Computational Biology & Bioinformatics. Leveraging algorithms and machine learning to decode genomic data, model biological systems, and accelerate drug discovery. Cyber-Physical Systems & Robotics. Combining computing, control theory, and mechanical engineering to design intelligent autonomous systems for manufacturing, healthcare, and transportation. Human-Centered AI & Cognitive Science. Integrating artificial intelligence with psychology and neuroscience to create adaptive systems that understand and augment human cognition. Computational Sustainability & Environmental Modeling. Using data science and simulation to address climate change, optimize energy systems, and manage natural resources. Secure and Ethical Computing in Socio-Technical Systems. Merging computer security, ethics, and social sciences to design trustworthy systems for finance, healthcare, and governance.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of research success and potential to secure external funding.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in interdisciplinary research and/or industry collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and supervise graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a nationally recognized research program that is innovative, sustainable, and nationally recognized for excellence.
  • Teach and mentor students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, fostering curiosity and excellence.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to address complex societal challenges through computing.
  • Engage in service to the School, University, and professional communities.
  • Normal teaching load: Three courses per year, with a reduced load in the first year to support research startup.
