About The Position

The Department of Integrated Studies in the College of Integrated Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Rock County Campus seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the area of Communication beginning August 2026. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in Communication, and service to the university, community, and profession. Research and teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise. Teaching undergraduate students, under-represented populations, and familiarity with teaching at a two-year campus are important skills sought after for this position. The successful candidate will be able to teach 100- and 200-level courses such as Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Popular Culture, Digital Communication, Theory and Persuasion, and/or Introduction to Film and other relevant courses offered through the College of Integrated Studies. Teaching is a primary focus of this position but the candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students; results in publications in peer-reviewed journals; and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also participate in service activities and embrace the principles of inclusion as a member of the university community.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Communication or closely related field. [ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2025; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2026 in advance of their first scheduled review.]
  • Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, commitment to working with inclusive populations, and serving as active member of the university community.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in university training and professional development, and a commitment to following applicable safety rules and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Full-Time teaching responsibilities include teaching, serving on campus and university committees, and service to the greater Rock County and Whitewater communities.
  • Faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities.
  • Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations and the discipline as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.
  • Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings or on weekends.
  • All students, faculty, and staff are required to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include, but are not limited to, Navigate, Canvas, and Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.
