About The Position

Jacksonville State University's Houston Cole Library invites applications for a tenure track position for Assistant Professor - Special Collections and Reference Librarian. The Assistant Professor and Special Collections and Reference Librarian in Library Services has primary responsibilities of evaluating library resources and planning and implementing library services addressing the information needs of the departments whose subjects are covered on the floor and the university community at large. This position will also provide reference and research assistance in these subject areas as well as with special collections. The Special Collections and Reference Librarian will assist with the soliciting and promoting of special collections. Located in the Appalachian foothills of northeast Alabama, midway between Birmingham and Atlanta, Jax State is home to over 10,000 students representing 63 countries. Requirements

  • Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program
  • Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume or CV and unofficial transcripts to be considered for the position.
  • Official transcripts will be required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • advanced degree or other post-graduate / continuing education in subject specialty or closely related fields preferred (not a requirement for consideration)
  • previous experience in reference service and patron instruction
