Located in Jackson, MS, UMMC is the state's only academic health science center with the mission to improve the lives of Mississippians by educating tomorrow's health care professionals, by conducting health sciences research, and by providing cutting edge patient care. The School of Health Related Professions at the University of Mississippi Medical Center invites applications for an Assistant Professor position (tenure track available) that focuses on a research and teaching track. We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual with expertise in the field of health-related professions that including, but not limited to disciplines such as biomechanics, rehabilitation, movement science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, health sciences, health administration, radiological sciences, and medical laboratory sciences. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the School of Health Related Professions’ research agenda, contribute to our dynamic and interdisciplinary research and teaching environment, and prepare future professionals and leaders in healthcare, with expectations to engage in the School’s research efforts in increasing scholarly productivity and funding opportunities. Additionally, the successful candidate will serve as one of the research division coordinators for the newly, being created research center for human movement, health, and rehabilitation, that will house state of the art biomechanics and rehabilitation research facilities including a fully synced, automated and instrumented split-belt treadmill, 3D motion capture system, 180-degree virtual reality visual surround system for real-time human movement analysis

Requirements

• A doctoral terminal degree in a health-related field, but not limited to disciplines such as biomechanics, rehabilitation, movement science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, health sciences, health informatics, health administration, radiological sciences, and medical laboratory sciences.
• A strong record of peer-reviewed scholarly publications and experience in applying for extramural grants.
• Teaching experience in human anatomy, biomechanics, kinesiology, rehabilitation, health sciences, health administration, statistics, or any related fields.
• Ability to run the newly created research center’s biomechanics lab with a state-of-the-art 3D motion capture system, instrumented split-belt treadmill with perturbation (pitch and sway capabilities), along with a 180-degree virtual reality visual surround system for real-time human movement analysis.

Responsibilities

• Conduct high-quality research in health-related fields in disciplines such as biomechanics, rehabilitation, movement science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, health sciences, health administration, radiological sciences, medical laboratory sciences, and biomedical engineering.
• Advance the School’s scholarly activity and secure external funding to support research activities.
• Utilize advanced human movement analysis techniques, including 3D motion capture, electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), force platforms, and wearable technology, to study human movement in clinical, geriatric, pediatric, occupational, and athletic populations.
• Teach graduate courses related to human anatomy, biomechanics, kinesiology, rehabilitation, health sciences, health administration, and statistics.
• Mentor graduate students in research.
• Engage in service to the department, college, and professional community.
