About The Position

The Assistant Professor Preclinical Faculty must have earned a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a general dental clinical practice is preferred. The completion of a post-doctoral General Dentist Residency or training is preferred. The candidate should have strong clinical expertise in the use of CAD/CAM technologies. It is preferred that the Preclinical Faculty have some minimal level of teaching experience at an academic health center. This individual should be a person committed to educating and empowering students with a wide range of clinical and academic abilities. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education, the Assistant Professor Preclinical Faculty will: Advise the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education and the Directors of Preclinical Faculty on college-wide academic issues to assist in moving the institution to its vision of academic excellence Establish a welcoming atmosphere to improve morale and to promote collegiality among students, staff and faculty Maintain an open-door policy for students in need of mentoring or counseling. Be a positive role model for students, faculty, and staff Supervise the students in their individual group Meet regularly with their SUCCEED students Attend and contribute to huddles and meetings Meet with students regularly to review their progress Meet with students having difficulty as needed Be responsible for recording and notifying the Preclinical Directors regarding the attendance of students within their group Demonstrate dental clinical techniques to the students chairside. Offer students guidance and direction in student progression by monitoring data on progress and performance Determine individual student needs and time utilization Provide didactic education to the students Coordinate the teaching and evaluation of professionalism and clinical practice management skills of the students Evaluate each student’s professionalism by reporting instances of misconduct, refusal to comply with established protocol, lack of professionalism and/or disregard for the faculty and staff direction Work with the Associate Dean and Directors of Preclinical faculty to resolve issues when problems of professionalism are identified Determine student compliance with departmental expectations and periodically review with the student Submit final grades based on compiled objective data from the student’s daily work Perform other duties as assigned Meet periodically with the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education and the Directors of Preclinical Faculty Meet regularly with the other Preclinical Faculty members. The Preclinical Faculty position involves being in the dental simulation clinic when students are in session and walking between the students without disturbing them. The Preclinical Faculty is expected to actively circulate through the assigned bench during operating hours to evaluate, provide feedback, and grade procedures performed by students. Inherent to this Preclinical Faculty Assistant Professor position is the ability of the faculty to work chairside to evaluate procedures that are being performed by students. Inherent to this Preclinical Faculty Assistant Professor position is the ability of the Faculty to sit or stand chairside and demonstrate procedures for students on a simulator at the dental simulation clinic. Inherent to this Preclinical Faculty Assistant Professor position is the ability of the Faculty to communicate, listen and follow along to any communications occurring during students’ learning. The Preclinical Faculty must be capable of tolerating the lights and noises associated with the dental simulation clinic. The Preclinical Faculty must be capable of lifting and /or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for Preclinical Faculty include close and distance vision, including looking at a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
