The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of New Hampshire ( UNH ) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in fluid mechanics at the rank of assistant professor, with a starting date of August 21, 2023. The ME Department at UNH seeks excellence through diversity among its administrators, faculty, staff, and students. The Department is particularly interested in creative scholars who can make fundamental contributions to the investigation of novel flow phenomena arising in grand challenge problems facing society, ranging from energy and resource utilization to climate change and environmental sustainability to disease transmission and human health. The successful candidate will employ state-of-the-art experimental diagnostics for the interrogation of complex flow and transport phenomena and/or implement novel, mathematically-sound algorithms for high-fidelity numerical simulations or dynamical-systems based reduced-order modeling. Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to environmental fluid mechanics, fluid dynamics of renewable energy conversion processes, dynamical systems approaches to turbulence, fluid dynamics of physical, chemical, and biological processes, fluid-structure interactions, and multiphase and particle-laden flows. The ME Department at UNH has built a strong reputation for performing research in the fundamental physics of fluid flows and boasts access to state-of-the art laboratories and field-based facilities. Candidates who can leverage these unique resources and/or engage in interdisciplinary collaborations across campus will be viewed especially favorably. Opportunities for collaborative engagement include the UNH Integrated Applied Mathematics doctoral program, School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering, Center for Sustainable Seafood Systems, and the Atlantic Marine Energy Center. The successful candidate is expected to (1) establish and maintain a productive level of high-quality scholarly work; (2) excel as a teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; (3) successfully mentor graduate research students; and (4) participate in Department, College and University service activities.
