Position Summary: The Thayer School of Education at Wingate University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education with expertise in Mathematics Education. This position supports undergraduate and graduate programs in teacher preparation and contributes to the School’s mission of preparing effective, reflective, and culturally responsive educators. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, engage in scholarship, and provide service to the School, University, and profession.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Mathematics Education or a closely related field (ABD considered with completion by start date)
  • Experience teaching mathematics or mathematics education at the K–12 level and/or higher education level
  • Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching, mentoring, and student success
  • Evidence of scholarly potential consistent with a tenure-track appointment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing or supporting NCDPI reports, program accountability, or state-level data submissions
  • North Carolina licensure in Mathematics Education (or eligibility for NC licensure)
  • Experience working within educator preparation programs, including clinical partnerships
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes (e.g., CAEP/AAQEP)
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and instructional technologies

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics education and related areas, using evidence-based and innovative instructional practices
  • Prepare teacher candidates for success in K–12 classrooms, including alignment with North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards and NCDPI requirements
  • Contribute to assessment, accreditation, and accountability processes, including preparation and analysis of NCDPI reports
  • Advise and mentor teacher candidates and collaborate with clinical partners and school districts
  • Maintain an active agenda of scholarship appropriate for a tenure-track faculty role
  • Participate in service activities at the program, School, University, and professional levels
  • Engage in curriculum development, program improvement, and continuous assessment
  • Support the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of Wingate University and the Thayer School of Education
  • Other duties as assigned
