About The Position

UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. This position emphasizes high-quality inpatient and outpatient pulmonary and critical care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to providing exceptional pulmonary and critical care services, advancing clinical education, and contributing to scholarly and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

  • Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development in pulmonary or critical care medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pulmonary and critical care, including management of chronic lung diseases, acute respiratory failure, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and ICU patients.
  • Provide inpatient ICU and pulmonary consult services , including co-management of critically ill patients, ventilator management, and collaboration with ICU consultants.
  • Provide inpatient ICU and pulmonary consult services to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice located in Hospital Galveston.
  • Participate in procedures such as intubation, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, central lines, and other bedside interventions, as appropriate to training and experience.
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and procedural pulmonary and critical care settings.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional M&M, quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including respiratory therapy, nursing, radiology, and surgery—for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and pulmonary/critical care-focused academic programs.
