About The Position

The University of Scranton Department of English & Theatre invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in British Medieval and Early Modern Literature beginning in August 2026.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
  • Immigration sponsorship will not be offered for this position.
  • Position requires a Ph.D. in hand by the start date.
  • Excellence in teaching undergraduate students.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional areas of teaching and/or scholarly interests may include one or more of the following: digital humanities (inclusive of uses of AI generative programs); environmental humanities; public humanities (inclusive of community-based learning); film and visual culture; and/or trans-or circum-Atlantic Studies.
  • Capability to mentor undergraduate students in research and/or other areas of co-curricular engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching will include courses that address British Medieval and Early Modern literature
  • Teaching will include courses that address Shakespeare
  • Teaching will include courses that address general-education literature
  • Teaching will include courses that address advanced topics reflecting individual research interests and specializations.
