About The Position

The University of Vermont's Department of Chemistry in The College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in the fall semester of 2026. We seek a creative chemist with expertise in Organic Chemistry to undertake an outstanding program of research leading to peer-reviewed scholarly publications and extramural funding for that research. The ideal candidate will develop an internationally recognized research program in organic chemistry, with a preference for synthetic/medicinal chemistry. Applicants will be expected to teach, advise, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students. A Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in chemistry or a related field are expected. In addition to the Chemistry Ph.D. program, department faculty draw graduate students from interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs in: Cellular, Molecular and Biomedical Sciences; Materials Science; Neuroscience; and Physics. The department occupies modern teaching and research facilities, has a full complement of state-of-the-art instrumentation and hosts the Agilent Laboratory for Chemical Analysis. UVM is also the home of the Vermont Advanced Computing Center, a research facility with both high-performance CPU and GPU clusters. The Larner College of Medicine is a short (<5 minutes) walk from the Department of Chemistry. This College hosts research groups with expertise in fundamental and applied biomedical science, along with facilities that could aid the development of a biomedical or medicinal research program within the Department of Chemistry. Collaborative research across the <span class="caps">UVM colleges is common and encouraged.
