About The Position

Under the direction of the Associate Dean for University Archives and Scholarly Communications, the Archivist coordinates and manages an archival program wherein the physical and digital materials that document the activities and history of the university and its predecessor institutions, as well as the history of pivotal local persons and events are identified, collected, organized, preserved, and made available for use.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in library or information Science with a focus on Archival Management from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program is required.
  • Graduate Certificate in Archival Management from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program is required
  • Minimum of 2 (two) years related job experience; relatable experience may be considered
  • Archival instruction
  • Evidence of ability to meet Tenure and Promotion requirements

Nice To Haves

  • An undergraduate or second graduate degree in History, Literature, or other appropriate discipline
  • Experience creating finding aids and organizing and describing materials
  • Society of American Archivist Certification
  • Evidence of community outreach for archival collection development.

Responsibilities

  • Acquires and processes physical and digital collection materials according to accepted archival standards and procedures
  • Oversees conservation efforts and re-houses documents
  • Prepares and maintains finding aids such as inventory and collectionguides
  • Administers digital archives and special collections infrastructure; prepares repository and archival materials for digitization
  • Works directly with Records Management Officer and individual departments to acquire official university records
  • Provides reference assistance to interested parties regarding the University Archives, Special Collections materials, and LU history
  • Engages in outreach activities promoting the Library, University Archives, and Special Collections
  • Develops and maintains archives and special collections operating procedures
  • Develop and teach library and archival instruction sessions
