DEPARTMENT : Administration JOB TITLE : Assistant Principal, Fremont Middle School REQUIREMENTS: Education Level: Master's Degree Certification/Licensure: Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate with Endorsement for Secondary Level Experience Desired: Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience Some training and/or experience specifically with middle level education Other Requirements: Twelve month work year Possess excellent human relations skills Knowledge of District Board policy Ability to function in a highly professional manner Willingness to continue to expand knowledge and expertise Possess excellent organization skills REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Superintendent, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and the Executive Director of Secondary Administration and Operations as determined by the Superintendent ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements of their specific job description. Basic: To assist the Principal in developing and maintaining a 7-8 school with a high quality staff and a curriculum which is relevant to the individual and collective needs of the students as determined by the administration Frequent: To be responsible for the daily operations within the building (building manager) including discipline Responsible for the daily attendance of students, keeping the daily roster of absentees by periods, accounting for students who are absent, working with students and parents of students who are absent and/or tardy excessively, and to enlist the assistance of the Principal and/or the Dean of Students or Guidance Director in fulfilling this obligation To procure and assign substitute teachers as the need arises due to illness or other approved absence of a teacher. To keep records and make reports to the Principal on absences of all employees, certified and classified. To oversee the creation of a master schedule of classes and to work closely with the Principal and Guidance Director in developing the schedule To prepare a duty roster of teachers for supervision of early morning/after school, and any other events which might require supervision of students To observe teachers in their classroom activity and/or assigned responsibilities, to make written records of these observations, and to work with the Principal and other administrative personnel in evaluating teachers and classified personnel, and in making recommendations concerning all personnel To organize, supervise, and administer the In-House Suspension Program of the school To assist with the supervision of students at the Middle School/High School athletic events so there is at least one Middle School representative or the Activities Director present at each of these events and at other Middle School activities such as music concerts, etc. Assist with the leadership of the Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 MTSS teams and the process To serve the District Offices, Principal, teachers, and students in any other administrative capacity not specifically covered in the job description, as directed by the Superintendent, Executive Director of Secondary Education, or Principal To attend IEP meetings for students in grades 7-8 To assist with the incoming and outgoing transition planning for students in grades 7-8 To deal with student discipline as it relates to all students To act as a resource for programming and academic supports for all students in grades 7-8 Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master's Degree
  • Have or be eligible for a Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate with proper endorsement
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience
  • Twelve month work year
  • Possess excellent human relations skills
  • Knowledge of District Board policy
  • Ability to function in a highly professional manner
  • Willingness to continue to expand knowledge and expertise
  • Possess excellent organization skills
  • Visual and auditory acuity for proper supervisory functions, skills in written and oral communication, and skills in human relations
