About The Position

The Assistant Plant Manager supports daily concrete plant operations by helping maintain product quality, safety, and efficiency. This role assists with production, inventory, and equipment management while coordinating with drivers, dispatch, and management to ensure smooth, compliant, and productive operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid State-Issued Driver’s License, Class A or B, preferred
  • ACI Field Testing I Certified, preferred
  • Candidates must be willing and able to undergo a pre-employment background check, MVR overview, physical/DOT and drug/alcohol testing. Ongoing compliance is required.
  • Proficiently read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to understand and read GPS from company issued tablet.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including: Management, supervisors, and peers People at various social levels
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform job functions in accordance with Company policies and management directives, including adherence to personal appearance standards, safety protocols, and P.P.E. requirements, while promptly reporting any unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to your direct report.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and being able to type proficiently on a desktop computer keyboard.
  • Must be able to take orders, instructions and guidance from management and supervisors
  • Proficient basic math skills, e.g. addition, subtraction, fractions, and percentages
  • Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy
  • Required to have an active phone with texting or email capabilities to ensure reliable communication during work hours (Note: Usage must comply with the Ernst Cell Phone Policy, Federal, & State regulations and may not interfere with safe operation of company vehicles).
  • Proven safe driving record

  • Lift 80 pounds, including but not limited to lift chutes and other related CMV/job related items.
  • Able to regularly climb heights of up 13 feet on a ready-mix truck, using the truck steps and ladder, work on a truck catwalk at an elevated height, in a ready-mix truck you must step down into the truck cab.
  • May be required to climb ladders and catwalks that may be between 6-110 feet above the ground
  • Ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, and be in confined spaces
  • Must be able to tolerate, with or without accommodation: Exposure to extreme weather conditions High noise levels and significant vibrations associated with construction equipment and overall job site activities Walking and working of varied rough terrain conditions May be exposed to construction related chemicals, this environment can include, but is not limited to, dust and other typical industrial conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist plant operations while ensuring consistent product quality and budget compliance.
  • Report customer issues promptly and resolve if appliable. maintain professional communication with team and management.
  • Maintain fuel, raw material, and building supply inventories; coordinate timely deliveries and usage tracking.
  • Proficiently operate batching software, backup system readiness, and accurate mix adjustments.
  • Monitor fleet availability and delivery schedules; communicate with dispatch and drivers to optimize logistics.
  • Conduct daily concrete testing, adjust plant operations for spec compliance, and manage mix design accuracy.
  • Perform visual inspections and moisture tests on aggregates; regulate temperature controls for seasonal batching.
  • Report violations of safety protocols, PPE compliance, and EPA/OSHA standards; report and mitigate hazards.
  • Maintain SDS documentation, record safety observations, and manage leftover concrete disposal.
  • Assign non-production tasks to maintain plant cleanliness and safe working conditions.
  • Maintain and organize delivery tickets, material receipts, and electronic documentation.
  • Troubleshoot plant performance issues, perform basic repairs, and coordinate major maintenance with mechanics.
  • Foster a positive, professional work environment through effective leadership and collaboration.
  • Proficiently operate a loader and other equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to make decisions with little or no supervision
  • Oversee the cleanliness and professional appearance of all Ernst vehicles & plants/locations
  • Able to work flexible hours and shifts and be reliable and punctual. The employee must also be willing and able to work long hours up to the maximum hours allowed of services permitted by DOT and state law, including but not limited to, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
