Atlas Tube, is seeking an Assistant Plant Manager for our facility located in Birmingham, AL. Reporting to the Plant Manager. POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Plant Manager will run all aspects of the manufacturing functions at our Birmingham Plant. This manager will be responsible for the planning, management, monitoring and control of overall plant operations to meet the company's financial objectives utilizing consultation from the Plant Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or Engineering
  • At least 10 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing leadership role.
  • Proven track record of driving operational and cultural change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong decision making, problem solving, communication and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite and SAP.
  • Flexibility to work in an industrial environment.
  • Legally eligible to work in United States.
  • A strong team player is necessary with the ability to coordinate efforts of many individuals internal and external to the organization.
  • Sound decision-making ability, computational, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is an essential function of this role.
  • Lead and promote health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of steel tube/pipe production is preferred
  • Willingness to become First aid and CPR first responder trained.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, promote, and enforce health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy.
  • Actively promote and spear head safety awareness and continuous improvement through observation and team input.
  • Drive and promote Weekly Safety Contacts and Monthly Safety Reviews with managers and supervisors.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing functions at the facility.
  • Work with the Plant Manager, HR, JHSC and Employee Committee to ensure Safety, Corrective Actions and strong communication is achieved and maintained.
  • Plan, manage, monitor, and control overall plant operations to meet the company’s financial objectives including, but not limited to continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, safety, productivity, quality, and other cost savings initiatives.
  • Provide organizational direction consistent with corporate goals, objectives, and vision to all departments within the facility.
  • Review daily operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to ensure minimal expenditures and prevent operational delays.
  • Build teams and collaborate with cross-functional groups (HR, Safety, Finance, Sales, Production Planning, etc.) to resolve day-to-day issues, while providing strategic support to accomplish continuous improvement with direction from Plant Manager.
  • Ensure that pertinent information is clearly and accurately communicated to all affected Zekelman departments in a timely fashion.
  • Delegate work to appropriate personnel and provide accurate and complete instructions for all completion of such work.
  • Work with the Quality Department to identify production quality issues with quick resolution and communicate those effectively to the Teammates.
  • Work with the Warehouse Manager and Sales to ensure that inventory levels are at a safe and efficient level for shipping and customer demands are met.
  • Explore and identify cost reductions and continuous improvement initiatives through CI meetings.
  • Facilitate and promote training to meet quality expectations by ensuring all employees are trained to perform their respective jobs including the purpose of the safety features of their specific machine, workstation controls, tools and equipment while maintaining the 30,60,90-day evaluations.
  • Effectively directs hourly workforce using leadership skills to meet production goals and objectives.
  • Oversee daily staffing requirements including reassignments, transfers or mandatory over requirements as needed.
  • Help coordinate with Production Planning to ensure smooth transactions of mill orders.
  • Manage the budget and headcount within the parameters set by the Plant Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager and dept to investigate, identify and resolve production equipment issues and ensure work orders are being generated as necessary.
  • Coordinate with Stockroom and Procurement Teams on the ordering and maintenance of consumables and supplies.
  • Communicate with the Plant Manager to organize shift schedules, production rates, mill conditions and post information and policies.
  • Review daily operational reports to communicate operational, manufacturing, maintenance issues and shift events to management team to prevent operational delays.
  • Develop and maintain KPI reports and help drive improvements to better them with Teams input.
  • Performs payroll and production system computer functions.
  • Participate and Lead in continuous improvement and yield projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
