The Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent provides support to the operations of two paper machines to expand the capabilities of the process and personnel, and to sustain best in class operating and cost performance. The person in this role is heavily involved in operator training and development and the identification and execution of process improvement projects, while assisting with the day-to-day operations on the paper machines. The Paper Machine Assistant Superintendent leads troubleshooting problems occurring with the paper making processes under the direction of the Paper Machine Superintendents.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc.
  • Experience in JDE, PI, Qlikview, and CMMS
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred
  • Progressive experience in pulp & paper
  • Direct supervisory experience on paper machines required
  • Proven safety leadership
  • Proven track record of driving continuous improvement
  • Understanding of the ISO process
  • Experience in developing Manufacturing Best Practice documents, such as recipes, SOPs, and center-lines
  • Ability to work across departments to aplish mill goals
  • Clear and concisemunication skills
  • Understanding of a 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year operation
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Lead people/supervise people

Responsibilities

  • Assist production teams in day-to -day operation of the stock prep and paper department supporting throughput of two high speed paper machines.
  • Be a safety role model.
  • Assist in monthly and annual outage planning.
  • Develop sound operator instruction documents, such as grade recipes, operator round checklists, SOPs, and LOPs.
  • data analysis techniques to aid in performance improvements.
  • Effectivelymunicate production team needs between functional groups.
  • Lead document management and retention to ensure proper training documents and related safety documents are current.
  • Lead daily operational meetings.
  • Manage department critical tools, such as the paper machine camera system and the pulp mill screen integrity PMs as well as the DMS.
  • Develop and continually update center-lining tools with operator input.
  • Assist the Paper Machine Superintendent on machine down days.
  • Serve as a back-up for the Shift Operations Managers.
