About The Position

Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC is searching for a qualified candidate to assume the role of Paper Machine Systems Engineer. Summary: The Paper Machine Systems Engineer’s primary focus will be to develop, implement, and maintain multiple systems that assist in the optimization of the paper making process. This role is crucial for the efficient and reliable functioning of production equipment. It uses technology to optimize paper production processes, reduce downtime, and improve overall productivity. This is a salaried, exempt position and, therefore, is considered “exempt” from overtime.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including periods of time in noisy, dusty, hot or cold environments.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team oriented and can effectively work with others to meet objectives and timelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Pulp and Paper industry preferred.
  • Experience with quality and machine control systems typically utilized in paper manufacturing.
  • Understanding of industrial automation, process control systems (DCS, PLC), and data historians is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize multiple systems that function as resources to run the Mill.
  • Optimize existing and new paper machine control systems (e.g., DCS, PLC), data historians, and other relevant plant systems to ensure seamless data flow and real-time monitoring.
  • Develop software solutions using data analytics and machine learning to predict equipment failures, optimize maintenance schedules, and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Adapt and customize existing software to meet specific paper machine requirements, including developing custom reports, dashboards, and user interfaces.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for software and related hardware systems, working closely with maintenance personnel and operations staff.
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to track key maintenance metrics, identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making for maintenance optimization.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations, including when operating equipment.
  • Ensure proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and applicable safety clothing are worn.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels and work as a team member.
  • Complete all assigned tasks in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.
