About The Position

The Department of Education, Culture & Society ( ECS ) in the College of Education at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Critical Educational Research Methodologies, with an emphasis on critical quantitative or mixed-methods research. ECS is a diverse, multi-disciplinary group of scholars committed to the study and pursuit of social justice in education using cutting-edge frameworks that address class, race, ethnicity, culture, language, immigration status, gender, and sexuality in educational policy and practice. ECS offers Ph.D., M.Ed., professional program specialties in curriculum theory, cultural studies in education, multilingual/multicultural education ( ESL / DLBE ), community-engaged pedagogy, and the social foundations of education (anthropology, sociology, history, and philosophy of education). The department also offers undergraduate courses as a part of our commitment to develop culturally and linguistically responsive, socially just educators and community-engaged scholars. ECS is deeply committed to fostering collaboration across campus and across the state’s school districts, community-based organizations, and policy networks, to prepare educational professionals who are successful in diverse educational contexts; and to support distinction in teaching, service, and scholarship. We seek candidates whose interests include but are not limited to: critical social theories (e.g., CRT , raciolinguistics, gender studies, and intersectionality), community-engaged and participatory research; history and politics of education. We especially welcome scholars who bring clarity and new ways of thinking about pressing issues related to equity in educational settings in and out of schools. Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in education, educational methods, or a related field by August 2024.
  • A record of scholarly achievement or strong potential as a scholar in mixed methods and/or critical quantitative methods.
  • Research agenda focusing on social justice and educational equity.
  • A strong record of scholarly achievement and extramurally funded research commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Utah
  • Evidence of a strong record of teaching up to the doctoral level commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Utah
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Utah

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active research agenda in area of expertise.
  • Publish scholarly works in high quality outlets.
  • Seek and secure external grant funding to support research and further interdisciplinary initiatives
  • Develop, tailor, and teach four courses per academic year, including undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars on research methodologies and core ECS courses in areas of expertise.
  • Mentor and advise doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students
  • Serve on graduate exam and dissertation committees
  • Collaborate and engage in service to the department, college, state, and national professional organizations, school districts, and local communities.
