About The Position

DS Bus Lines Inc., part of Beacon Mobility, is seeking an Assistant Operations Manager for its student transportation department in Leavenworth. This role involves leading a team of CDL School Bus Drivers and Monitors, ensuring students arrive safely and ready to learn. The manager will act as a bridge between administration and frontline staff, fostering a positive culture while upholding the highest standards of safety and efficiency in pupil transportation. Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years in transportation experience.
  • 1+ year of supervisory experience, preferably managing a unionized or diverse frontline workforce.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with CDL requirements and DOT safety regulations is essential.
  • Proficiency in Hosting Zoom/Teams calls and conducting in-person safety briefings.

Nice To Haves

  • School District or Pupil Transportation experience is highly preferred.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or Education Admin is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all drivers and monitors are briefed on their daily routes, student rosters, and specific vehicle assignments.
  • Provide "on-the-road" feedback and office-based coaching to ensure staff remain compliant with district and state safety protocols.
  • Lead training sessions for new technology (GPS, student tracking apps) and conduct safety "stand-up" meetings.
  • Act as a point of contact for driver concerns, ensuring open communication and mutual understanding.
  • Assist in building and adjusting efficient bus routes to minimize ride times and maximize fuel economy.
  • Oversee the scheduling of fleet maintenance to ensure zero service interruptions.
  • Maintain meticulous records for DOT and State Department of Education regulations, including driver certifications and safety drills.
  • Review payroll for accuracy, manage monthly invoicing, and analyze labor data to improve efficiency.
