Transportation Operations Manager
About The Position
The Transportation Operations Manager will lead the execution of safe, effective, and efficient outbound transportation at the new Chick-fil-A Supply Distribution Center (DC) in Olathe KS. This role involves guiding nightly operations, refining and improving outbound transportation procedures, and leading supervisors and drivers. The manager will lead in a way that supports Chick-fil-A’s vision and strategy while embodying the corporate purpose. This position requires a leader with diverse skills and experiences to support transportation operations, fostering relationships with other divisions of the distribution center and Chick-fil-A Supply Services. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with a heart for service and compassion, coupled with a mind for effectively supporting business management. Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in outbound distribution operations, transportation, food distribution, and/or private fleet responsibility
- Strong aptitude to think critically, solve problems, and drive improvements in a professional and respectful manner
- Demonstrated functional knowledge and expertise in distribution, including outbound transportation procedures and regulations, routing, transportation equipment, performance metrics, and supplier management
- Working knowledge of innovations in supply chain and outbound transportation and equipment
- Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with general safety standards, quality specifications, and governmental requirements
- Ability to work a swing shift and be present to lead your team at night at least 50% of the time
- Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and communication skills
- Strong ability to negotiate and resolve conflict by navigating confrontational situations to ensure all parties are treated with honor, dignity, and respect
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access; experience with ERP, WMS, and TMS solutions
- Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking): to safely follow verbal instructions, complete documentation and paperwork, and accurately interpret labels, pick lists, scanner prompts, signage, and company communications.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of supervisors, drivers, and navigators to ensure the on-time, safe and affordable delivery of product to Restaurants
- Lead the training and development of supervisors, drivers, and navigators
- Instill a culture of safety, engagement and positivity that reflects Chick-fil-A Supply values and serves Restaurant Operators
- Create an environment full of care, safety, and excellence, an environment where overnight delivery drivers do their best work
- Design effective communication strategies to reach drivers daily
- Lead daily scheduling for outbound transportation operations
- Work with the safety leader to ensure compliance of outbound transportation with federal, state, and local government regulations (e.g., driver logs, DOT regulations, etc.)
- Support regulatory and internal audits of operations
- Evaluate operational results and communicate those results to senior Transportation and DC leadership
- Coordinate and communicate outbound transportation equipment needs to local vehicle maintenance teams
- Deliver industry-leading on-time delivery and customer satisfaction rates
- Balance the needs of the Operator with the capabilities of the operation
- Support Chick-fil-A vision and strategy
- Utilize and manage TMS, Telematics & proprietary Delivery Applications
- Complete other activities as deemed valuable by management
