About The Position

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing all daily operations of the meat department, ensuring high‑quality products, excellent customer service, proper merchandising, and compliance with company standards and safety regulations. This role helps lead department staff, maintain inventory levels, and drive sales and profitability.

Requirements

  • Previous meat department or related retail experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of meat cuts, food safety, and merchandising standards.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate team members.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt service to customers.
  • Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and meat preparation suggestions.
  • Maintain attractive, fully stocked, and properly rotated meat displays to maximize sales.
  • Ensure signage, pricing, and promotional materials are accurate and current.
  • Support the Meat Manager with daily department operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Follow all company and regulatory guidelines related to food safety, sanitation, and equipment use.
  • Ensure all meat products meet quality, freshness, and appearance standards.
  • Assist in preparing meat cuts, grinding, trimming, wrapping, and merchandising as needed.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering to maintain proper inventory and minimize shrink.
  • Verify deliveries, ensure accuracy of invoices, and oversee proper product storage.
  • Reduce waste by practicing effective rotation (FIFO) and managing markdowns appropriately.
  • Train, coach, and support meat department associates in customer service, safety, and product knowledge.
  • Help schedule staff to meet business needs and labor guidelines.
  • Promote a positive, team‑oriented work environment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment at all times.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained per company standards.
  • Comply with all health department regulations and company food safety policies (e.g., temperature logs, labeling, storage).
