The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing daily operations of the meat department to ensure high standards of product quality, food safety, inventory control, and customer service. This role plays a key part in driving sales, maintaining compliance, and developing department associates while ensuring a clean, efficient, and well-stocked department. Requirements

  • Previous experience in a meat department or related food retail environment
  • Working knowledge of meat cutting, handling, and food safety practices
  • Ability to lift, bend, stand for extended periods, and work in cold environments
  • Strong customer service and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory or lead experience in retail or grocery operations
  • Familiarity with ordering systems, inventory management, and shrink control
  • Knowledge of company policies, safety standards, and merchandising procedures

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing day-to-day meat department operations, including production planning, cutting schedules, and merchandising
  • Ensure fresh meat, seafood, and value-added products meet company quality and presentation standards
  • Monitor department conditions to maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety compliance
  • Support inventory control activities, including ordering, receiving, rotating, and storing product
  • Help minimize shrink through proper handling, rotation, markdowns, and yield management
  • Review sales trends and inventory levels to support accurate forecasts
  • Follow and enforce all food safety, sanitation, and temperature-control standards
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including HACCP guidelines
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and corrective actions as needed
  • Provide outstanding customer service by assisting with product selection, special orders, and preparation suggestions
  • Address customer questions or concerns promptly and professionally
  • Help ensure product availability and attractive displays to enhance the customer shopping experience
  • Assist in training, coaching, and supporting meat department associates
  • Lead associates during assigned shifts in the absence of the Meat Manager
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
  • Support execution of promotions, pricing changes, and merchandising plans
  • Help maximize sales through proper display, signage, and rotation
  • Monitor performance metrics and support improvement initiatives
