About The Position

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing daily operations of the meat department. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality products, maintaining food safety standards, controlling costs, and leading associates to ensure an exceptional customer experience. The Assistant Meat Manager acts as the department lead in the Meat Manager’s absence. Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility).  Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.   For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a meat department or food retail environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of meat cutting, processing, and merchandising standards
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills
  • Ability to lift heavy products and stand for extended periods
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
  • Customer‑focused mindset
  • Attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team
  • Basic math and inventory management skills
  • Clear and effective communication

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of the meat department to ensure fresh, high‑quality products are consistently available
  • Assist with ordering, inventory control, and shrink reduction to meet sales and margin goals
  • Ensure all meat cutting, wrapping, labeling, and merchandising standards are followed
  • Maintain strict compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
  • Monitor product rotation, dating, and storage to ensure freshness and minimize waste
  • Coach, train, and motivate department associates to meet performance and service expectations
  • Assist in scheduling, timekeeping, and labor management
  • Handle customer questions, special orders, and concerns promptly and professionally
  • Execute ad plans, displays, and promotional programs as directed
  • Support company policies, safety programs, and merchandising standards
  • Lead by example with strong product knowledge and customer service
  • Assist in onboarding and training new associates
  • Provide feedback and support to improve associate performance
  • Foster a positive, team‑oriented work environment
  • Follow all food safety, temperature control, and sanitation procedures
  • Ensure proper cleaning of equipment, tools, and work areas
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations related to meat handling
