The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing daily meat department operations, ensuring high standards of product quality, food safety, merchandising, and customer service. Requirements

  • Previous meat, butcher, or retail food leadership experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of meat cuts, production methods, and food safety practices
  • Strong customer service, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to supervise, train, and motivate associates
  • Ability to work in a cold environment, lift heavy products, stand for long periods, and work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing daily meat cutting, grinding, wrapping, and case‑ready production
  • Ensure proper rotation, labeling, and presentation of all meat and seafood products
  • Monitor inventory levels, ordering, receiving, shrink, and product freshness
  • Support merchandising standards including case layout, signage, and promotions
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company operating procedures
  • Deliver excellent customer service and assist customers with meat selections, special orders, and questions
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly
  • Maintain clean, well‑stocked, and visually appealing service and self‑service cases
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development of meat department associates
  • Assist with associate scheduling and daily task assignments
  • Lead by example to reinforce productivity, safety, and teamwork
  • Perform full department leadership duties in the Meat Manager’s absence
  • Assist with sales planning, labor efficiency, and shrink control
  • Monitor production levels to minimize waste while meeting customer demand
  • Support departmental initiatives to increase sales and profitability
  • Enforce food safety standards, OSHA practices, and equipment safety procedures
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of meat products
  • Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment
