Organization: Pt Transport 10 Job Summary: Responsible for day to day management of VUMC's Patient Transport and Dispatching Center operation. Maintain accountability for excellent department performance resulting in high customer satisfaction, and ensure that services provided is customer focused, efficient, and cost effective. . KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Hiring and training of all staff. Follows principles of targeted selection in selecting new employees and supervisors. Participates in the development and implementation of new employee orientation. Conducts ongoing in-service training program for staff. Comply with human resources policies and procedures. Strive for a competent and satisfied employee group by proper staffing, completing timely performance appraisals, ongoing training, development and mentoring staff, and maintaining confidentiality. Hire, coach, train, discipline and terminate staff as needed. Maintain employee records and track training in training manual. Plan and schedule monthly department meetings and an in-service. Manage the web-based automated dispatch program. Responsible for the efficient transport of patients throughout the medical center based on data gleaned from the program. Educates all patient care managers and on proper use of the program, and how to use the data to control costs and usage. Trains and monitors transport staff on proper use of hand-held devices and accurate data collection. Works with patient care managers to establish par levels, service expectations, and benchmarks. Meet regularly with department customers and facility administration. Use computer system to report departmental performance. Perform immediate excellent service recovery. Ensure proper use and maintenance of communication equipment, computer hardware and software, and patient transport equipment. Report quality and quantity of work produced daily, as well as problems and solutions. Monitors flow and quality of work to assure timely completion of workload and standards are maintained through the use of reporting systems. Prepares and maintains a variety of departmental records and reports per standards. Ensures compliance with the JCAHO, State Department of Health, EPA and all other government agencies. Assigns work as required. Monitors work performance and prepares reviews and/or evaluations for assigned personnel, as well as corrective action reports when necessary. Manage day to day operations of the department. Assists in review and evaluation of existing programs, services, policies and procedures. Recommends and implements new and/or modified programs, services and policies and procedures. Meets with Department Managers to coordinate and communicate departmental programs, services, and policies and procedures. Resolves complaints and addresses personnel issues as required. Makes frequent rounds of the facility to inspect linen distribution operations. Accountable for budget performance. Responsible for customer and staff satisfaction. Meet compliance hospital standards including safety, policy and procedures, and all requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies. Develop and maintain systems for organizing work and information. Actively explore ways to improve quality of input and output of work. Effectively use TDSS computerized system and benchmark reports as necessary. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the customers and staff to ensure high customer satisfaction. Attend and participate in all department and facility in-services, orientations, functions, and other meetings as required. Participate in hospital committees and patient care teams to improve quality, satisfaction, and safety. Participate in planning and budgeting for department. Operate within budget by monitoring and controlling expenses, including capital expenses.
