About The Position

Responsible for delivering high-quality, innovative, and engaging equestrian programming year-round—including summer camp—for girls and local community partners. The Assistant Manager of Equestrian Programs designs and implements comprehensive programming, oversees daily horse care, and manages hourly facilitators, summer camp staff, and camp volunteers to ensure a safe, exceptional equestrian experience for all participants.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Horsemanship Association certification, and professional experience with horse training or professional competing.
  • Minimum two camp seasons in an administrative or supervisory role with experience in riding program procedures and curriculum creation.
  • Knowledge of youth development, program planning, budgeting, and coordination.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and proven customer service responsiveness.
  • Experience with statistical reporting, record-keeping, and scheduling.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability through research and effective solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and make sound decisions.
  • Skilled in resolving issues within organizational policies and managing multiple priorities efficiently.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook or similar productivity software.
  • Ability to make a commitment to the philosophy of Girl Scouting, both nationally and locally.
  • Ability to effectively interact, work, and collaborate with people of various cultural backgrounds and promote an environment of inclusivity.
  • Must have and maintain a valid TX driver’s license, a safe driving record, current vehicle insurance, reliable transportation, and be willing and able to travel within Girl Scouts of Central Texas region.
  • Must obtain food handlers certifications within 30 days of employment to support cross-functional camp programming. Other certifications may include archery and ropes courses.
  • Yearly membership in GSUSA is required.
  • Satisfactory results from a criminal background check are required.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, plans, and implements engaging, progressive, and sustainable equestrian programs year-round and during summer sessions.
  • Explores innovative strategies to grow equestrian programming, increase Girl Scout participation, develop equestrian leadership opportunities, and generate revenue.
  • Defines and tracks key program indicators, making data-driven recommendations to improve and expand offerings.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and schedules equestrian staff, ensuring safe program execution and proper horse care.
  • Serves as a mentor and resource to staff, providing supervision, guidance, and support.
  • Leverages volunteers to support equestrian programming, including creating an Equine Special Interest Group.
  • Manages and plans the equestrian program budget.
  • Oversees equipment upkeep and ordering for equestrian activities.
  • Monitors and manages lease horse selection, herd viability, and overall care and feeding of horses.
  • Maintains a safe environment for all equestrian activities in collaboration with camp rangers.
  • Ensures all equestrian activities comply with GSUSA, GSCTX, American Camp Association, Certified Horsemanship Association, and Safety Activity Checkpoints standards.
  • Prepares camp annually for American Camp Association accreditation, including equestrian program compliance.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with camp partners, vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service to members and guests by resolving concerns promptly and creatively, fostering positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
  • Collaborates with council departments to ensure equestrian events or programs align with broader strategic goals.
  • Participates in general camp life activities (check-in/out, themed events, meals, cookout, cleaning duties) and assists with daily, weekly, and end of season camp cleaning.
  • May serve as backup support to the Camp Manager and as site sitter for Camp Texlake as needed.
  • Engages in proactive problem-solving through clear communication, research, and timely implementation of effective solutions.”
  • Collaborates effectively with management, unit staff, and the Camp Manager through clear and consistent communication.
  • Coordinates regularly with the Camp Texlake Manager to ensure accurate record-keeping and accountability.
  • Always displays professional demeanor and integrity.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Adheres to the policies of the Girl Scouts of Central Texas and promotes Girl Scouting in a positive manner to the public as well as to all internal and external customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
