About The Position

The Assistant Manager of Infrastructure Services assists in managing all resources and personnel associated with the planning, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and documentation of the campus network, and communications infrastructure. Campus network infrastructure systems include twisted-pair copper data network cable, fiber optic cable, switched edge network, and the wireless Wi-Fi network. Campus communication telephony infrastructure includes both legacy AT&T Centrex and new Voice over IP (VOIP) technologies. Project Management for all significant network/communication infrastructure projects on campus including new building projects, building renovation projects, twisted-pair copper and fiber optic cable plant build out/maintenance, campus wireless buildout and telco communication installation and maintenance. This position assists in the management of all resources associated with troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of campus supported computer electronics including Windows based systems and select printer hardware. Salary Grade : 17 Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information, or a related field from an accredited institution AND five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current and developing strategic information requirements of a major research university.
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in information technology.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Strategic planning and advanced leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop requests for and evaluate proposals in reference to leading-edge information services technology.
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance and counsel to clientele in the assessment and development of existing and/or proposed systems.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows OS based computer systems and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel or equivalent.

  • Research new products and coordinate training for specific vendor supported products for all aspects of installing and maintaining the campus network/communication/telco/computer electronics infrastructure.
  • Assists in managing, supervising, supporting, and training all Infrastructure Service employees, inclusive of work and personnel issues, time sheet reconciliation and reporting, MSU Policy interpretation and enforcement, project/ticket resolution issues including client/employee interaction, IS position and salary recommendations.
