About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Manager with planning menus, ordering food according to set budget, managing kitchen inventory and supply requests, supervising the kitchen staff and volunteers for summer camp. This position is also responsible for ensuring that the campers and staff dietary needs and restrictions are safely met in coordination with the Program Director, Health Center Director, and Special Diets Cook.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of Camp Namanu kitchen and food services areas including but not limited to supervision of kitchen staff, menu implementation, dietary restriction management, regular cleaning, inventory, and ensuring kitchen practices are compliant with Oregon Food Sanitation rules. Acts as back-up for Kitchen Manager when they are out.
  • Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, families, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure
  • Maintain adequate inventory, and ensure the rotation and timely use of kitchen supplies
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of nutritious meals for youth, staff, and guests throughout summer programming and rental seasons
  • Provide quality options for those with special dietary needs
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of kitchen and food service areas
  • Monitor food preparation methods, portion sizes, and the overall presentation of food
  • Comply with health and food safety standards and regulations
  • Inform and train camp staff about their responsibilities when in dining spaces including safety procedures, how to prep their campers, and any specific protocols to follow.
  • Maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
