The National Audubon Society is a leading nonprofit conservation organization with 120 years of science-based, community-driven impact, dedicated to protecting birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. Birds are powerful indicators of our planet’s health, and Audubon works across the Western Hemisphere to drive meaningful and lasting conservation outcomes. With 800 staff and over 1.9 million supporters, Audubon is committed to ensuring a better planet for both birds and people. Audubon’s Seabird Institute is a key pillar of the National Audubon Society’s Coasts strategy, combining conservation science, education, outreach, and advocacy to protect seabirds. The institute engages hundreds of visitors through its work at the Hog Island Audubon Camp. The Assistant Instructor Program, formerly known as the Junior Instructor Program, began in 2021 to engage early career naturalists, bird guides, and environmental educators. This fully-fledged program allows participants to gain work experience, network with world-renowned instructor teams, and find mentors. Assistant instructors support camp programming and contribute positively to the experiences of participants. The work schedule is 40 hours per week, revolving around a six-day/five-night program schedule that includes early morning bird walks, day trips, and evening lectures. Each assistant instructor will work for one 6-day Hog Island Camp session between May 24, 2026, and September 18, 2026.
