About The Position
Share your love of horses and equestrian skills with Girl Scout members in age appropriate horse activities. Infuse and model the Girl Scout Law into member and volunteer experiences in order to fulfill the mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Fall through Spring scheduling will vary based on girl programming as well as herd maintenance needs. Assistant riding instructors participate in the above mentioned responsibilities under the direction of the designated lead riding instructor of the work shift. Serving the Girl Scout movement requires that all teammates are flexible and generous with their talents. We move at the speed of the girl and are committed to doing our best on her behalf. This may entail shifts in assignments, priorities and /or schedules.
Requirements
- Apply your experience in horsemanship to basic equestrian programming for Girl Scouts.
- Track record accomplish assigned plans and directives, while also making independent decisions based on safety of the girls and horses.
- Pride in achieving personal and team goals.
- Motivated by the Girl Scout mission.
- Engaging communication style, verbal and written.
- To successfully perform the essential functions of this role, with our without accommodation, a person must be able to utilize basic office equipment including computers and phones; interact with others in-person in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings; endure prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching outdoors in extreme weather conditions; hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to utilize camp equipment; the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Nice To Haves
- Girl Scout and / or youth development experience preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- It would be great if you speak Spanish as well.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct delivery of basic horse programming for participants varying in age from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Assesses rider’s skills at the beginning and end of each session.
- Ensures safety and equipment checks are completed prior to a rider mounting.
- Oversees the proper cleaning and storage of tack and other resources used in programming or herd care during assigned shifts.
- Follow all camp rules and staff policies and best practices.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional manner with girls, parents, volunteers, and staff.
- Ensures administrative requirements are met, such as collecting and compiling waivers and rosters, as well as completing herd and barn reports and incident reports as needed.
- Performs feeding, mucking, and light barn-related tasks as directed by the Barn Manager.
