About The Position

The Assistant Head of School Culture (AHSC) plays a key role in fostering a positive, achievement-oriented environment that supports student success. This role leads the implementation of the Belmont Charter School Culture Model, ensuring a strong sense of belonging, high expectations, and staff/student accountability. The AHSC coaches teachers and deans on classroom management, Developmental Designs and manages academically-aligned extracurricular activities for students, and engages families and the community to strengthen school culture. This is a 12 month position (during the school year) that is supervised by the head of school.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in social work, counseling, education, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an urban school setting; at least three (3) years in a leadership, counseling, or youth development role.
Teaching experience preferred.
All employees must be able to provide Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Clearance (Act 34), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151), Federal Bureau of Investigation Record Check Clearance (Act 114), and Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Clearance (Act 168) before starting work on campus
Strong leadership and coaching skills to support teachers in classroom management and student engagement.
Deep understanding of restorative practices, SEL frameworks, and behavior intervention strategies.
Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff in a diverse school community.
Ability to leverage student data to drive school-wide behavioral strategies and interventions.
Proficiency in conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy school environment.

Responsibilities

School Culture Leadership and Management Lead the implementation of Belmont’s school culture model to create a safe, inclusive, and achievement-focused environment.
Manage and develop a culture team (Deans of Students, OST Director/Coordinator, Athletic Director) to drive outcomes in attendance, student behavior, and school climate.
Establish and oversee school-wide systems for positive reinforcement, accountability, and student discipline.
Manage student discipline through a restorative practices approach that emphasizes accountability and personal growth.
Ensure a consistent leadership presence throughout the school to monitor and reinforce a positive climate.
Lead school-wide crisis prevention and de-escalation efforts, including staff training on safety interventions.
Student Engagement and Family Partnerships: Oversee the planning and execution of extracurricular programs, clubs, and school events that promote student engagement and leadership.
Work in conjunction with staff to plan culminating events for programs, as well as school activities inclusive of community meetings, field trips, homecoming, spirit weeks, assemblies, proms, and graduation.
Develop strong relationships with students to ensure psychological safety and cultivate a sense of belonging.
Collaborate with the athletics director to ensure that student athletes are set up for success in their athletics and in classroom engagement Strengthen parent and community relationships to enhance student support and engagement.
Staff Development and Instructional Engagement Design, implement, and audit school wide systems that set a strong foundation for classroom learning.
Coach teachers on effective classroom management strategies, school-wide behavior expectations and Developmental Design framework.
Provide professional development to support a positive and structured learning environment.
Partner with instructional leaders to align culture strategies with academic goals.
Additional responsibilities: Serve as a member of the school leadership team Represent BCHS and the BCN network at community events Stay informed about best practices in student culture and community engagement.
Conduct evaluations of systems to assess effectiveness and make data-driven decisions for improvements.
