About the Role The Assistant General Transportation Manager supports high‑volume transportation and logistics operations by driving execution, safety, financial performance, and continuous improvement. This role leads teams, manages operational plans, and ensures transportation services consistently meet customer, service, and cost expectations. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Develop and execute business plans and strategies to achieve transportation goals related to safety, service, quality, and productivity. Drive operational improvements and support execution across assigned areas of responsibility. Lead implementation of supply chain initiatives using structured change management and playbooks. Financial & Performance Management Monitor and manage expenses against budget; track asset utilization and transportation costs. Review and analyze operational and financial reports to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Ensure performance standards are clearly defined, measured, and adjusted as needed. Safety, Quality & Compliance Ensure compliance with all company, supply chain, and safety policies, procedures, and standards. Maintain and update SOPs and supporting documentation. Promote a strong safety culture and support incident prevention and corrective actions. People Leadership & Development Lead, coach, and develop associates and leaders within assigned areas. Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback. Support hiring, training, mentoring, performance evaluations, and succession planning. Build a team‑based environment that promotes engagement, accountability, and growth. Continuous Improvement Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the Walmart Performance System (WPS). Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes to address operational gaps. Identify and remove barriers that impact performance, service, or cost. Change & Initiative Management Execute multiple projects and business plans simultaneously. Identify customer and operational needs and align resources accordingly. Develop contingency plans and demonstrate adaptability in a fast‑paced environment. Promote continuous learning and improvement across teams. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Communicate operational expectations to transportation partners and suppliers. Address performance issues through fact-based problem solving. Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure transportation solutions align with business needs. Serve as a community liaison by supporting local organizations and company‑sponsored initiatives.
