About The Position

Haycon, a Boston-based construction firm focused on high-performance and Passive House building, has it’s own in-house Estimating function. We have a terrific career opportunity for an Assistant Estimator to work with our clients, or Sub-Contractors & vendors, and help keep us at the forefront of the high standards we set in this niche space in the industry. Supporting the Lead Estimator, this role is suited to a self-starter with experience in creating construction estimates for large scale residential building projects (30-50 units). Our culture promotes self-direction, and a driven, self-assured candidate will have the opportunity to manage their own project estimations quickly. A background in construction is key in order to have an understanding of the tech aspects of projects. A passion for high-performance/Passive House building techniques and future-focused design is a BIG plus! We take a data-oriented approach to creating our pricing, so a knowledge of - and strong interest in - using technology is a big advantage. This Assistant Estimator will have touchpoints across many aspects of the estimation process, allowing for excellent growth trajectory and professional knowledge gain. You will be heavily engaged in several duties, and interact with PM team members, vendors, sub-contractors, etc.

Requirements

Ability to read and understand construction drawings
Experience with coordinating Subs & Vendors on Scope of Work
Effective communication skills, written and verbal
Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office suite including SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook
Procore proficiency

Responsibilities

Communicate with new and existing clients to obtain necessary information to create construction estimates
Perform take-offs and quantify all the finishes like flooring, plumbing & lighting fixtures, siding material, glazing, all interior/exterior doors, etc.
Contact Sub Contractors (Subs) and vendors and obtain proposals and quotes from them
Work with Subs to ensure they have full grasp of Scope of Work
Identify and communicate with W/MBE businesses as required by project type
Take the initiative to communicate with our internal team to prioritize projects for estimation
Download drawing sets, perform the take-offs, create a budget structure, and export it for final review with your supervisor
Maintain the pricing database with up-to-date vendor and contractor pricing
Maintain Master Sub Contractor list, updating as necessary with latest information
Work closely with Project Management team to make sure all the drawings and documents in Procore are accurate and updated
