About The Position

Hudson Institute seeks an assistant editor to support the production of Hudson Institute’s publications, policy memos, annual report, op-eds, and other scholarship. The position demands an individual with a keen understanding of how to craft policy-oriented written material succinctly and accessibly. All aspects of this job demand an individual who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing simultaneous and competing demands for time and attention. This is a full-time position based out of Hudson’s Washington, DC office, working within Hudson’s external affairs team and reporting to the director of external affairs. Requirements

  • Commitment to Hudson Institute’s mission and supporting its policy work.
  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Two to three years of relevant experience.
  • Deep interest in the major policy debates unfolding in Washington, DC.
  • Familiarity with editorial policies and workflow processes, as well as relevant style guides.
  • Superior writing, verbal, editing, and project management skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with Hudson colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex and simultaneous tasks and assignments.
  • Commitment to acting with integrity and the utmost professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the timely management and production of Hudson publications, policy memos, annual report, op-eds, and other scholarship, including coordinating the publication calendar and workflow for these deliverables.
  • Edits Hudson written material for content, style, grammar, and clarity for consumption by Hudson Institute’s core audiences: government officials and staff, the policy community, media, and institutional supporters.
  • Assists with the production of various digital newsletters, including drafting and designing.
  • Conducts fact-checking and researches background information as necessary to ensure accuracy and accessibility of Hudson publications.
  • Communicates regularly with Hudson experts to coordinate publication of their scholarship, resolve content and editorial questions, and ensure quality of published work as well as adherence to Hudson’s style guide and editorial policies.
  • Liaises with team of external copy editors and graphic designers to support publishing efforts.
  • Works within Hudson’s CMS to support the publication process of material to Hudson’s website.
  • Supports the external affairs team in other work areas to develop and evaluate publications and strategies for reaching intended audiences.
  • Compiles and edits briefings, executive summaries, and email newsletters based on Hudson publications as required.
  • Attends relevant internal and external meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Stays abreast of policy developments and opportunities for Hudson to influence policy debates.
