The Student Academic Success Center team focuses on creating spaces for students to engage in their coursework and approach to learning. Through academic coaching, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, effective communication strategies, the Tartan Scholars program, accommodations for students with disabilities, and language support for multi-lingual learners, we offer a wide variety of opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of who they are as learners, communicators and, ultimately, scholars. The Student Academic Success Center values delivering a positive experience of student-centered support and resources while being equity-minded, asset-oriented and data-informed. The Assistant Director, Tartan Scholars Program will report to the Director of Tartan Scholars Program. The Tartan Scholars Program is designed to meet the unique needs of high-achieving students who experienced opportunity gaps prior to their enrollment at Carnegie Mellon. The program intentionally offers support and resources proven to amplify Scholars' success skills. The Assistant Director, will demonstrate a commitment to inclusion ensuring all students have what they need to thrive, designing success initiatives through data-informed decision-making, and demonstrate a record of success providing developmental support to undergraduate students across the span of their university experience. The Assistant Director’s role will collaborate with Success Center partners to manage academic resource initiatives (e.g. Six Weeks to Success), serve as the point of contact for Tartan Scholars experiencing challenges, and serve as the program’s point of contact for students on leave from the university for personal or academic reasons. The Assistant Director will collaborate with the Director on signature Tartan Scholar initiatives that define the Tartan Scholar experience including summer connections with incoming students, the Pre- Fall experience, the Winter Conference and Senior Celebration, as well as support the Director of Tartan Scholars Program in advocacy related to equity issues impacting students from limited- resource backgrounds to support the academic success and retention of Tartan Scholars.
