About The Position

The Assistant Director, Sports Information, under general supervision, assists in publicity efforts for all sponsored sports, including writing press releases and feature stories. Produces and edits game programs, game notes, and media guides. Assists with maintenance of the Athletic Department’s Web site.

Requirements

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in sports journalism, sports administration, public relations, or related field.
  • Experience – Three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of: Word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Demonstrated strong writing and verbal skills.
  • Web design and basic computer application experience.
  • Ability to perform under deadlines.
  • Be reliable to the organization.
  • Present information clearly and concisely.
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Communicate effectively with all segments of the campus community.
  • Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
  • Must possess commitment and capabilities to abide by NCAA by laws and Lone Star Conference regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in related field
  • Strong knowledge of statistical software (Genius, Stat Crew, PrestoSports, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Familiarity with live-streaming software (Production Truck, Wirecast, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in publicity efforts for all sponsored sports, including writing press releases and feature stories
  • Producing and editing game programs, game notes and media guides
  • Helping to maintain historical records
  • Distributes athletic information to all media outlets
  • Assists in the relations with local, regional and national media
  • Assists in the maintenance of the official website
  • Assists with game-day operations, including media relations, game management and statistical services
  • Trains and supervises student workers, task workers
  • Assists to develop and implement a comprehensive public relations program
  • Promotes the athletic program, teams, and contests
  • May assist in all athletic special events, fundraising, promotions and other activities related to athletics
  • May help develop and execute all student-athlete leadership initiatives and development efforts
  • Oversight of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and mentor programs
  • With the help of the Academic Advisors, oversee NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program
