About The Position

The Assistant Director of Resident Services supports the administration and daily operations of SAGE’s Resident Services Department, with primary oversight of Resident Coordinators across SAGE’s two housing sites. Working closely with the Director, SAGE Center Brooklyn at Stonewall House & Resident Services, this role ensures consistent, high-quality service delivery, compliance with required protocols, and readiness for funder site visits. The Assistant Director plays a dual role as supervisor and service provider, contributing subject matter expertise to program management, staff supervision, compliance, and community engagement. This position supports the strategic planning and ongoing development of SAGE’s housing programs, partnering with senior leadership to strengthen operations, expand housing initiatives, and improve outcomes for residents through inclusive and affirming services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public administration, Social Work, Urban Planning or a related field preferred or 7+ years of experience working in shelter/ housing initiatives.
  • 5+ years’ experience with Budget management, financial tracking and fiscal responsibility best practices.
  • Experience in quality assurance and program effectiveness with the ability to critically review case documentation, assess service plan implementation and use key performance indicators to drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience in direct management of two or more staff members.
  • Experience in public speaking and delivering engaging housing related presentations to a range of audiences, including but not limited to community groups, government agencies and prospective partners.
  • Ability to translate complex housing operations data into clear, compelling narratives, and can confidently respond to questions while highlighting the program’s mission, successes and areas for growth.
  • Experience with formally homeless populations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and dependable, this is an in-person position 5 days a week, with some evening or occasional weekend hours.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft office and ability to learn other pertinent software systems.
  • Willingness / ability to travel daily throughout NYC area and via public transportation
  • Familiarity with LGBTQ+ aging issues and cultural and linguistic competency in regards to age ability, sexuality, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, class and other characteristics that affect the lives of diverse older adults.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day- to – day operations of SAGE housing programs, ensuring efficiency and excellence in service delivery.
  • Monitor occupancy, leasing activities, and resident services to ensure alignment with program goals and overall performance targets.
  • Oversee the quality and consistency of resident services by regularly reviewing case notes, monitoring service plan implementation, and tracking KPI’s to ensure compliance, effectiveness, and alignment with program goals; provide feedback and guidance to staff to support continuous improvement and positive resident outcomes.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures aligned with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise housing staff, specifically resident coordinators.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high performing team.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, respect and accountability
  • Ensure residents receive affirming, culturally competent services.
  • Effectively address resident concerns and demonstrate strong conflict resolution skills to support positive and respectful community living.
  • Promote community engagement through programs, events, and partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with federal state, and local housing regulations (e.g., HUD, Fair Housing laws)
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists with audits, inspections and funding requirements.
  • Support the expansion of SAGE’s housing portfolio, including new development projects.
  • Collaborate with leadership on long -term housing strategies and funding opportunities.
  • Build relationships with community partners, developers, and government agencies.
  • Assists in developing and managing program budgets
  • Monitor monthly budget performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Prepare detailed financial forecasts and projections to support strategic planning and housing expansion efforts.
  • Ensure proper allocation and utilization of grant funding, subsidies and other funding sources in compliance with requirements.
  • Contribute to the growth and sustainability of programs by identifying and developing new funding opportunities, including government grants, private foundations, and corporate partnerships aligned with resident service needs.
