About The Position

The Assistant Director of Finance and Infrastructure (Assistant Director) provides strategic oversight and leadership for Davies' Business, Facilities, and Information Technology departments in support of the school's mission to prepare students for college and career success. Reporting directly to the Director/Superintendent (Director), the Assistant Director ensures that financial operations ($24M budget), facility management, and technology infrastructure align with instructional priorities and Davies' unique role as Rhode Island's only state-owned and operated career and technical high school/LEA. The Assistant Director supervises three department coordinators who manage day-to-day operations, freeing the Assistant Director to support the Director in operating and capital budget development, strategic planning, systems improvement, compliance oversight, and capital projects. The Assistant Director serves as a key member of the Davies Leadership Team and works in close collaboration with the Director, the Davies Board of Trustees, the Associate Director/Principal, and the Human Resources Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Possess or qualify for and obtain a valid RI School Business Administrator certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an administrative position involving significant fiscal management responsibility, required
  • Ability to understand and support the unique mission of career and technical education
  • Strategic thinking and systems improvement mindset
  • Coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other governmental agencies and departments, and with private vendors
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and strong command of tone
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (in Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration or similar field) or certification as a Certified Public Accountant, preferred
  • Significant fiscal management experience within a Rhode Island state agency, preferred
  • Experience supporting large scale construction project(s), including as a key point of contact for Owner’s Program Manager, architects, engineers, and related personnel, preferred
  • Experience managing capital projects, preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Director, support strategic direction and oversight for the Business, Facilities, and Information Technology departments to ensure alignment with Davies' educational mission and operational needs
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate three department coordinators (Business, Facilities, Technology), providing coaching and professional development while holding them accountable for departmental performance
  • Ensure compliance with RI Department of Administration, as well as applicable laws, statutes, and regulations, across all supervised departments
  • Develop and refine systems, processes, and organizational structures within supervised departments to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ensure preparation and timely submission of Davies’ budget, revised budget, operating budget and RI capital budget requests
  • Support multi-year financial planning in support of Davies' strategic priorities and sustainability
  • Serve as a key point of contact for state budget, General Assembly fiscal staff and Division of Purchases offices to navigate state agency budget and procurement work flows
  • Along with the Director, lead long-term capital improvement planning
  • Oversee annual E-Rate funding requests for Internet access and internal network connections
  • Oversee state property inventory and maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental health and safety requirements for school buildings
  • Collaborate with Davies Leadership Team to ensure that technology investments and initiatives are aligned with instructional priorities
  • Oversee and manage all vendor contracts and performance; serve as liaison to in-house food service provider
  • Prepare fiscal reports, studies, and analyses for the Director and Davies Board of Trustees
  • Serve as an active member of the Davies Leadership Team, collaborating across departments to ensure consistency and coherence in service delivery
  • Participate in policy development, staffing, contract negotiations, and other school-wide initiatives
  • Support the Director in special projects and evolving organizational needs
