About The Position

The Assistant Director of Performance is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive strength, conditioning, and performance programs that support the health, safety, and competitive success of student-athletes at the University of Tulsa. This position serves as the Head Performance Coach for the Rowing program and as an Assistant Performance Coach for Football, while collaborating closely with sports medicine, nutrition, mental health, and coaching staffs within the Student-Athlete Wellness and Performance model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Nationally recognized strength and conditioning certification CSCS, or SCCC.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Demonstrated experience working with collegiate or elite athletes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience as a head performance coach for an Olympic or endurance sport.
  • Experience working with Football performance programs.
  • Familiarity with sport technology and performance monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and supervise evidence-based strength, conditioning, speed, agility, and mobility programs specific to Rowing student-athletes.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of year-round performance training for Football under the direction of the Director of Football Performance.
  • Integrate sport science principles to enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and support long-term athlete development.
  • Prioritize student-athlete health, safety, and well-being in all training environments.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Nutrition, and Mental Health staff to ensure aligned care and communication.
  • Modify training programs as needed based on injury status, return-to-play protocols, and wellness indicators.
  • Serve as the primary performance contact for the Rowing coaching staff, providing leadership, education, and strategic planning support.
  • Communicate effectively with Football performance staff to ensure consistency and continuity in training methodologies.
  • Educate student-athletes on proper lifting technique, recovery strategies, nutrition habits, and performance lifestyle behaviors.
  • Conduct performance testing and assessments; analyze data to guide training decisions.
  • Monitor workload, readiness, and recovery metrics when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records of training programs, testing results, and attendance.
  • Assist with the daily operation, supervision, and safety of performance facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with equipment usage standards and cleanliness protocols.
  • Support scheduling and logistical coordination for team training sessions.
  • Adhere to all University of Tulsa, American Athletic Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Maintain required certifications and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Model professionalism and ethical conduct consistent with departmental values.
