About The Position

Be dedicated to the development of lifelong learners by providing leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that promote the educational development of each student. The Assistant Director will serve as an instructional leader and assist in administering all laws, policies, regulations, and rules that apply to the operation of MHSAP activities. Specifically, the Assistant Director will carry out the following essential duties and responsibilities aligned to the Iowa Standards for School Leaders: 1. Mission, Vision, & Core Values Assist the Director in supervising the development and delivery of the programs that support the vision, mission, goals, and core values of the district and the homeschool program, as well as high expectations for teaching and learning. 2. Ethical & Professional Norms Demonstrate ethical, trustworthy, and professional behavior. Treat others fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect. Behave respectfully toward all other administrators to promote the effectiveness of the administrative team in making District decisions. Demonstrate respect for all professional educators working on the District Mission. Apply policies and procedures in a fair and equitable manner. Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity toward all members of the school community. Maintain confidentiality in school operations. 3. Equality & Cultural Responsiveness Ensure barriers to student learning are identified and addressed. Treat others fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect. Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to all in the school community. Present a positive personal image in all internal and external interactions that reflect on the Marion Independent School District. 4. Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Assist the Director in administering assessment strategies to effectively and accurately measure student learning when required. Maintain a working knowledge of educational practices and communicate effectively with all District and building educators and parents. 5. Community of Care & Support for Students Administer regulations and expectations that establish and maintain appropriate student behavior. Work with the Student Services Coordinator to coordinate special education services. Discuss student developmental progress, concerns, behavior incidents, and academic achievement with parents in an honest, sensitive, and confidential manner. Communicate and work with students, staff, and families to resolve issues and concerns. Communicate with students and families regarding discipline referrals, following all required policies and procedures for notification and documentation 6. Professional Capacity for Program Personnel Assist the Director in recruitment, hiring, and retention of all building instructional and support staff. Assist the Director in evaluating staff performance and mentoring staff toward continuous professional growth. Provide leadership, encouragement, opportunities, and structure for all staff to continually design and implement more effective teaching and learning experiences for all students. 7. Professional Community for Teachers & Staff Assist in leading the school learning organization by supporting a climate and culture conducive to continuous improvement, student achievement, and social, emotional, and behavioral development. Apply knowledge of current research as it relates to the support of the Educational Goals of the District. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Demonstrate effective communication skills with a variety of stakeholders in the operation of the school. 8. Meaningful Engagement of Families & Community Assist the Director in establishing and maintaining a building culture that positively promotes the school to its stakeholders. Assist the Director in engaging the community to create a shared responsibility for student and school success. Support ongoing communication with representatives of all community groups to promote respect for all in the school and community environment. 9. Operations & Management Design and manage operational procedures to maximize opportunities for successful learning. Assist the Director in maintaining the building and recommend improvements to facilities within the limits of district resources. Assist the Director in managing the necessary building meetings to ensure appropriate district actions and citizen involvement. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. 10. School Improvement Assist the Director in administering assessment strategies to effectively and accurately measure student learning when required. Apply knowledge of current research as it relates to the support of the Educational Goals of the District. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in education from an accredited college or university
  • A valid Iowa administrative license or the ability to obtain.
  • A valid Iowa evaluator approval or the ability to obtain
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Personal homeschooling experience
  • Innovative, growth mindset, relating to educational philosophy and approaches that are tailored to the individual family/student

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Iowa Homeschooling Law and Regulations
  • Knowledge of current MHSAP practices and policies
  • Strong technology skills
