About The Position

Fort Greene Council, Inc. (FGC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in Brooklyn, New York in 1973 and incorporated in 1974. FGC provides services across the lifespan, including early childhood education and comprehensive programming for older adults. FGC operates sixteen (16) Older Adult Centers across seven Brooklyn community districts, as well as one early childhood education center, Young Minds UPK-4. Position Summary The Program Director Assistant supports the daily operations of an Older Adult Center in accordance with NYC Aging program standards and contractual requirements. This role ensures the delivery of safe, engaging, and compliant services that promote the health, well-being, and social engagement of older adults. Compensation: $62,162.10 annually

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Human Services, or related field with at least one (1) year of experience working with older adults; OR Associate’s degree or 60 college credits; OR High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in community-based services, group work, or recreational programming for older adults
  • Ability to comply with all NYC Aging regulations, program standards, and reporting requirements
  • Must obtain and maintain Food Handler’s Certificate, CPR, and AED/First Aid certification
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to providing respectful, person-centered services to older adults
  • Must be a team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff and community partners

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Director in the daily operation of the center, ensuring compliance with NYC Aging standards, policies, and procedures
  • Support the timely and accurate registration of participants and data entry in the VIVE system, including attendance and service documentation
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate recreational, educational, and wellness activities in alignment with the NYC Aging program guidelines
  • Prepare and distribute monthly activity calendars and meal menus in accordance with required timelines
  • Ensure meals are served in compliance with approved meal service schedules and food safety standards
  • Immediately report and document all incidents, accidents, and safety concerns in accordance with agency and NYC Aging protocols
  • Conduct outreach and engagement to maintain and increase program participation, including collaboration with community partners
  • Assist in coordinating special events, trips, and programmatic fundraising activities
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Serve as acting Program Director in their absence, ensuring continuity of compliant operations
