About The Position

The Assistant Director, Football Video Operations, assists in the management of the Football Video unit by producing practice and game videos and assisting with implementation of technology within the Football program. The Assistant Director guides the student video team in tactics, techniques and procedures to capture appropriate video footage during practices and games, and creates films for all players and coaches that provide analytic resources through video products. The Assistant Director must uphold the standards of excellence established by the Head Football Coach. All the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the United States Military Academy (“USMA”), Army West Point Athletic Association Inc. (“AWPAA”), the American Conference (“Conference”), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”). Scope of Impact The responsibilities outlined in this job description are integral to the success of the AWPAA Football program as video support is a key factor in providing resources for coaches and players to have the necessary tools to compete and win on an NCAA Division I FBS level. The video products are a critical component of team development and preparing coaches and players for competition, so the Assistant Director has immense ability to impact the on-field success of the program. Disregard of NCAA rules can have a similar negative impact. The employee must maintain a high level of professionalism, moral and ethical character, and be a role model. Level of Decision Making This position requires advanced creative judgment and artistic skills in sport cinematography, multimedia storytelling, and digital video production. The Assistant Director exercises independent direction in filming, editing, and producing original video content, including highlight reels, instructional videos, and recruiting media, applying invention, imagination, and artistic skill as a core component of the role. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; a combination of education and relevant experience may substitute.
  • 0-2+ years in athletic department or related fields.
  • Demonstrated creative skill in film production, cinematography, video editing, or digital media creation.
  • Ability to exercise independent artistic judgment in producing original multimedia content.
  • Camera and computer management experience.
  • Must have intermediate understanding of XOS Thunder systems.
  • Must be familiar with camera operations of both Sony and Panasonic camera systems.
  • Knowledgeable in all the Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, Cadet-athletes, prospective Cadet-athletes, parents, etc.
  • Takes initiative, hardworking, ability/willingness to figure out solutions to problems independently, creatively.
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, self-starter and intrinsically motivated.
  • Strong management skills; proven ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and ability/willingness to follow NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in creative video direction, sports cinematography, documentary-style filming, or multimedia storytelling.
  • Basic understanding of PTZ cameras and remote camera systems.
  • Drone experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and edit the daily video content captured by video team members to include practices and games at home and away contests.
  • Create video products and provide content for other video requests to include weekly instructional videos for coaches and players, social media videos and individual player highlight reels.
  • Assist in the optimization of the multi-million-dollar remote camera system while ensuring cadet safety.
  • Acquire coach’s video of all opponents and provide Army coaching video products to opponents and NFL.
  • Research and assess new video methods and technology and make recommendations for new equipment, software and process enhancements.
  • Interpret how to optimize our database to meet the needs of coaches and players while coordinating a 50+ user video network.
  • Responsible for working with coaches to create custom headings, filters, and automated cutups for game plan preparations using XOs Thunder software.
  • Handling the creation, device authorizations, and media of all cloud assets using XOs Thundercloud.
  • Work with coaching staff daily to create a dynamic film strategy for all daily practices to include spring ball, training camp, and in-season practices.
  • Responsible for collecting all opponent films and cut ups via the dragonfly network.
  • Deliver the video products to coaches via iPads during games, practices and scrimmages.
  • Create all folder structures and media assets for quick and easy film locations for our coaches and players.
  • Work with Director to recruit, train, schedule, and manage a team of cadet film volunteers.
  • Create daily manager duties to ensure the mission is successfully accomplished with little to no mistakes.
  • Responsible to evaluate individual and unique talents of the cadets and manage them accordingly.
  • Have inputs on building the right film team for gameday execution.
  • Create a balance between professional development of cadet film volunteers and a safe atmosphere that promotes manager retention.
  • Coordinate with Recruiting Department to provide video support during official and unofficial visits, junior days, or any other recruiting events.
