About The Position

The Director, Creative Video Content assists in the recruiting, retention and motivation efforts of the Army West Point Athletic Association Inc. (“AWPAA”) Division I FBS football program specifically through producing all recruiting videos, creating weekly and year-end motivational and highlight videos, and acquiring necessary content (e.g., games, practices, workouts, events, etc.) for product creation. The Director, Creative Video Content will stay current on emerging video-graphic methods, technology, and equipment to effectively elevate media products locally and across social media platforms. The Director, Creative Video Content must uphold the standards of excellence established by the Head Football Coach and all the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the United States Military Academy (“USMA”), AWPAA, the American Conference (“Conference”), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”). Scope of Impact The responsibilities outlined in this job description are integral to the success of the AWPAA football program as video and graphic support is necessary to compete and win on an NCAA Division I FBS level. The Director, Creative Video Content has a vital impact on the current team’s motivation and recruiting efforts for future players through video highlights and other products. High level videos are a critical component in the recruiting, retention and motivation process, so the Director, Creative Video Content has immense ability to impact the on-field success of the program. Disregard of NCAA rules can have a similar negative impact. Level of Decision Making The Director, Creative Video Content exercises a preliminary level of decision making regarding daily video content operations and technology needs. The Director exercises independent creative judgment in determining the visual style, narrative approach, and artistic direction of all video and digital media content. Higher level decision making will happen through the Executive Director, Player Personnel and/or Chief of Staff. Success Factors Success in this position will be evaluated by the Supervisor on the employee’s performance in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: Commitment to AWPAA Mission, Vision and Values; and supporting the AWPAA Strategic Plan and Priority Results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or from a four-year accredited institution; a combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with an intercollegiate athletics department, professional sports organization and/or other elite sporting organization.
  • Understanding and expertise in all the Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Extensive knowledge in social media platforms (e.g., Instagram and Twitter).
  • Must have expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects or similar Video editing programs.
  • This position will require familiarity/expertise with MacBook.
  • Additional working knowledge of both still and video camera capabilities are necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, Cadet-athletes, prospective Cadet-athletes, parents, etc.
  • Takes initiative, hardworking, ability/willingness to figure out solutions to problems independently, creative.
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, self-starter and intrinsically motivated.
  • Strong management skills; proven ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and ability/willingness to follow NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Create or direct the creation of other video requests to include weekly instructional videos for coaches, social media videos and individual player highlights.
  • Shoot, edit and create recruiting and motivational videos (e.g., daily practice and workout, game, season and others as requested).
  • Conceptualize and originate creative themes, storylines, and visual styles for video content, requiring advanced artistic skill and originality.
  • Recommend new equipment and technology for highlight films to stay current with competition and industry trends.
  • Work with Executive Director, Player Personnel and/or Chief of Staff AWPAA Athletic Communications and AWPAA Creative Services on content creation, creative development and execution of the game products including Friday night highlights, win reel and uniform reveal.
  • Work with the Director, Video Operations, Football Operations and hotel staff during team travel.
  • Responsible for helping create social media content that is an appropriate representation of the USMA brand and is compliant with USMA and AWPAA policies and standards.
  • Coordinate with gameday network producers to gather necessary content materials.
  • Produce the season highlight film and video needs for the year-end banquet dinner.
  • Coordinate with Player Personnel department to provide video support during official and unofficial visits, junior days, or any other recruiting event.
  • Produce video content as necessary for social media and direct messaging to recruits.
  • Work with Executive Director, Player Personnel and/or Chief of Staff to recruit, train, schedule, and manage a team of cadet film volunteers and/or interns.
  • Create daily manager duties to ensure the mission is successfully accomplished with little to no mistakes.
  • Responsible to evaluate individual and unique talents of the cadets and interns and manage them accordingly.
  • Provide inputs on building the right film team for gameday execution.
  • Create a balance between professional development of cadet film volunteers and a safe atmosphere that promotes manager retention.
